Usability in Practice camp - London, 6-8 May

Posted on May 10th, 2007

I have just returned from an amazing event. Usability In Practice: Three-Day Intensive Camp was organized by Nielsen Norman Group and aimed at web professionals trying to give users more positive experience by testing the web applications usability. Held in one of London’s hotel, the workshop stuffed my dummy head with creative ideas and practical solutions for improving the user-flow on the produced websites. I’ve met fantastic people (Sergei, Barbara, Ulrika, Miguel, Krzysztof and Pierre! - cheers! :), I have found out (again :) that half of the London speaks Polish language now, I’ve walked busy Capital City streets with Marek and together we’ve had a great time photographing the surroundings.

But the main cherry on this tort was the workshop anyway.

“Three days intensive” - I think it says everything. Because we did everything we could in the terms of usability training; from paper prototyping through discussing the things we could do for disabled web users, finishing with extensive financial analysis of usability needs. Jakob Nielsen, Hoa Loranger, Kara Pernice Coyne and Amy Shade are great professionals (even if I think Mr. Nielsen needs more Red Bulls, as he’s not very energetic ;) and listening to them was an incredible experience. Yeah, my brain is completely washed out; I close my eyes and I see numbers, charts and small, ethereal users figures running all around but, JC almighty, it was worth it! Pure creative hardcore, explosion of productiveness. If you will ever have a chance to attend such a seminar - go for it without hesitation, as it’s very informative. It’s expensive of course, but really worth every penny. You will meet people from all around the world and you will see how the good presentation should look as well ;)

And London was beautiful. :)
