…and Canon, Nikon, Sony and others don’t.
I am a Fuji user. Which is literally Nikon body-based anyway. I’ve had Konica Minolta cameras, Canon cameras (analog) and Pentax system cameras. All were cool. All were pissing me off. Canon - with absolute crap state-of-art ergonomics. Fuji - with slowness (but that’s down to particular model so I shouldn’t complain). Minoltas - with the amount of generated noise. When I’ll look on Pentax system, I must say, that I liked it the most. Simple, perfectly layed out, very ergonomic (have you ever kept Pentax Z1 in your hand? No? You should try and then we’ll talk about what’s cool). But, despite some minor and major fuckups of interfaces of all the brands, there is one thing; one proof of the fact that major brands engineers do not think while constructing new lenses.
Freaking polarising filter conflict with the lens hood.
If you have ever used circular polarising filter, you know that you need to touch it all the time. You cannot really take your hand off it, as it won’t work if you won’t turn it on the lens front. But how the hell are you supposed to do it, if you have petal/standard lens hood attached to the lens?! Now, Pentax guys are wise and they know that it’s not the best idea to leave fingerprints all around the polariser glass; and they have built a system of petal lenses hoods (great by the way) with a small, removable cap which you can take off and then you can easily turn any filter with a help of one finger. Just like that. Simple and effective. All my Nikon, Canon and Minolta lenses were missing this feature (patented, or what?) and every time I was having a polar on, the only way was to remove the hood. Come on people, that’s stupid.
And that’s why I think that all that “Canon is better than Nikon, and Nikon is better than Minolta” is bullshit. I would soooo love Nikon to think for a while when they’re building new stuff.
